So how has your week been or how has your day been going? These are common questions that we may be asked by friends and loved ones and we ask others these questions as well. Let’s focus on today. Each day is different as some go along very smoothly, while others are filled with tough decisions to make, or at times some days bring difficulties one after another. We may need to remind ourselves of the sovereignty of God over every day of our lives. Psalm 139:16 says, “Your eyes saw my substance,
being yet unformed. And in your book they all were written, the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them.” God not only knew about every day of our lives before we were born, but He orchestrated or allowed each event. We may get some information that may cause us to start
being concerned about the future. This
may bring about an anxiousness or even, if we let our mind focus on the new
information, worry can set in and disrupt our attention on today. We rob ourselves of the joy and the intimacy
that we can have with our Lord by focusing our attention on what may
never be. Jesus said in Matthew 6:34, “Therefore do not worry about
tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day
is its own trouble.” We are going to
have some troubles and difficulties every day, so there is no point in worrying
about what tomorrow may bring.
What we have from our Lord is a wonderful promise in
the book of Lamentations. Chapter 3 verses 22-23 says this, “Through the Lord’s
mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new
every morning; great is Your faithfulness.” As you wake up tomorrow God has
already supplied the mercy that you will need for that brand new day. Oh how
great is His faithfulness to His children.
