There is a phrase that you may hear from time to time;
“give the gift of life”. That phrase can be related to organizations where
people can donate blood, they are giving the gift of life to someone. That
phrase can also be related to those people who are organ donors, they are
giving the gift of life to someone that perhaps might die without the organ
that is being donated. I also saw it in relation to a life insurance company
where you could give the gift of life to your child by taking out a life insurance
policy; that one seemed very odd to me.
What about us as Christians, can we give the gift of life to someone? The answer is
truthfully no, but we have the privilege and responsibility to play a part in God’s plan of salvation. From our own ability we can save no one however, being empowered by the Holy Spirit we are able to share the love of Jesus with them. Acts 1:8 says, “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all of Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” We actually have dynamite power to share our faith, thereby telling others about God’s incredible love and the free gift of salvation for them.Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death, but
the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” So go ahead and donate
blood at your local blood bank as there always seems to be a shortage of that.
Or you could be an organ donor to someone you know or a stranger who is in desperate
need. There always seems to be a shortage of those as well. You could be giving
the gift of life to them. But better still, heed the call of Jesus in Luke 10:2
when He said, “The harvest truly is great, but the laborers are few; therefore,
pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.” Be
involved in giving the gift of eternal life by simply showing and telling
others about the love of Jesus.
