Living a walk

As we get older things come upon us where we are no longer capable of doing tasks like we did in the past. Hearing diminishes, eyesight fails, joints hurt and muscles get weaker and weaker. The basic truth is we are all wearing out and this is a result of sin entering the world.

But, at other times something can happen to us that is only temporary. It may simply require extra rest or perhaps an operation, but over a period of time you will be able to resume your normal activities. I started thinking about walking as I was not able to do it for a few weeks.

The first part of Genesis 3:8 says this, “and they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day,” What a beautiful picture we see of our

Lord walking in His created garden. It doesn’t specifically say but I am sure Adam and Eve strolled along with the Lord and talked with Him as they walked together. However, something happened that broke this walk of sweet fellowship. The last half of verse 8 says, “and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.” Their intimate walk was broken by sin. It was a permanent break that effects all mankind and there is nothing we can do about it.

The kindness and love of God has turned this hopeless situation into one that has a remedy, and that remedy is faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Once we do that we can walk with our Lord in a real and intimate relationship as we traverse the paths of life of earth. May we live out 1Thessolonians 2:12 which says, “that you would walk worthy of God who calls you into His own kingdom and glory.”

The chorus to the hymn C. Austin Miles wrote goes like this, “And He walks with me and He talks with me, and He tells me I am His own, and the joy we share as we tarry there, none other has ever known.” Let’s enjoy our walk of faith with Jesus as we take His yoke upon us and continue to learn how to walk worthy of the One who called us out of darkness into His marvelous light.
