It seems like we are just about over the surge of the Coronavirus.
Things appear to be getting back to normal, (at least in America), but some
other countries are still being ravaged by it. I went to a home improvement
store the other day and there was a large display in the center aisle. The
display was stocked with hand sanitizer and there was a sign that said, “Clearance.” People will still use hand sanitizer but not to
the extent that they have used it in the past year and a half. Aisles that were
loaded with sanitizer are no longer necessary.
From a biblical standpoint what is no longer necessary? In the Old Testament, sacrifices
of animals were made so sins could be covered, but the sins could never be taken away. Sacrifices were continually being made, but that actually brought about a reminder of the sins. Sacrifices for our sins are not necessary anymore. You no longer have to do penance to try and absolve your sins that you have committed against a holy God.The main thrust of the book of Hebrews is the Lordship
Jesus Christ. He is our great high priest and through His death and
resurrection we have a new covenant. Hebrews 10:14 states, “For by one offering
He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.” We are saved,
forgiven of all our sins, and we are continually being made more into the image
of Jesus because of His one-time perfect sacrifice. That perfect sacrifice was
the Lord Jesus Christ. Hebrews 10:18 reiterates that point saying, “Now where
there is remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin.
When we sin, we confess and repent from our sins. Confess means that we know and agree that we
have sinned and repentance is turning away from that sin. When we do that our
intimacy with our God is restored.
So, keep a little hand sanitizer around but don’t
forget to thank Jesus for being your one-time perfect sacrifice.
