Be Careful

 

That phrase would conjure up all sorts of images in our minds.  What are we to be careful of?  We teach our children to be careful crossing the street.  As we get older we need to be careful to eat well and get enough exercise and sleep.  We need to be careful in all aspects of our everyday life. We must be wise not foolish in all our endeavors.

         I was working on a job several years ago and I had to wear a harness and be tied off while working on the roof.  It was very steep and very slick.  The owners were concerned but there was a duplicity in their statement.  It really showed what was of

most importance to them.  “Marty be careful while working on our roof and that slate is very expensive and hard to replace.”  Both husband and wife echoed the same statement.  So, was their concern for my safety or that I may damage some of their slate?  I’m thinking it was for their slate because they asked me when I was finished, “Did you break any of our  tiles”?

        So as Christians what are we to be careful of?  Paul told Titus these things I want you to affirm constantly, that those who have believed in God should be careful to maintain good works.  It is easy for us to get distracted by all that goes on in our lives and forget the fact that our good works bring glory to God.  Our good works don’t earn our salvation but they testify that we are His.  Matt 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

Over 18 times in Deuteronomy God told the children of Israel to be careful.  Deuteronomy 5:32 says, Therefore you shall be careful to do as the Lord your God has commanded you; you shall not turn aside to the right hand or to the left
