Protect your sacrifice

There are all sorts of protection plans available for just about anything. From your home, to the appliances in our home; you can take out a policy to protect whatever you want.  In Genesis 15 Abram wanted proof from God that he would inherit the land God told him. The Lord told him to prepare some animals for a sacrifice. Verse 11 says this, “And when the vultures came down on the carcasses Abram drove them away.” That is a very

interesting verse. It seems to me that Abram was basically protecting the sacrifices.

So what sacrifices are we bringing that should be protected? Romans 12:1 says, “I beseech you therefore brethren, by the mercies of God that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.”  We must do all we can to protect our entire being as we are a living sacrifice to God.

We battle against the devil and all of his evil cohorts and then we have our sinful nature which is always ready to rear its ugly head. How are we to protect ourselves? We don’t focus on our enemy but are told to be aware of his tactics. God has given to us His armor to put on. Ephesians 6:11 says, “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemings of the devil.”  It is much more than just reciting the pieces of armor but living them out in our daily lives.  We are to live out the truth, righteousness, preparing yourself with the gospel of peace, have faith, know you are saved and know the word of God.

May we always be on guard for the vultures that come into our lives so we can immediately drive them away and not let them get any kind of a foothold in our lives. Proverbs 4:23 states, “Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life.” We are told in Philippians not to be anxious but to pray and God’s peace will guard our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus. Protect your sacrifice.
