I had just finished driving 15 hours getting us to our
destination. I thought how much longer until we get there although I did know
the answer. I then thought about when our kids were little and traveling with
us, they would ask the question that I was thinking. Are we there yet, how much
longer, I want to be there now and on and on the questions came? Are you ever
thinking similar questions about the return of Jesus? Jesus, how much longer until you come back
and get us, are we going to be home soon, or I just want to go home, why am I
still here?
Scripture gives us some basic guidelines about the end times, but in certain points in our
life, I think we put more effort into trying to figure out how close we are to the end instead of putting forth more maximum effort into Godly living and sharing our faith with others. In Luke chapter 21 Jesus was talking about the
destruction of the temple and all the various signs that would appear before
that would take place. He then made the statement in verse 27&28, “And then
shall they see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. And
when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads;
for your redemption draweth nigh.” There have been many predictions made
about when Jesus will return, but in Mark 13:32 Jesus said, “"But of that
day and hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only
the Father.” Acts 1:7 states, “And he said unto them, It is not for
you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own
power.” The simple truth is no one knows when Jesus will return, so what are we
to be doing until then, just watching and waiting?
Jesus told a parable in Luke 19 and verse 13 says, “So
he called ten of his servants, delivered to them ten minas, and said to them,
‘Do business till I come.” The business we are to do is to live a life
representing our faith in a real and tangible way, it is simply show and
tell. Show others that His love for you
brings about a change and then tell them about the love Jesus for them.
