Over the years I have heard many little sayings about God’s provision in our lives. Here are a couple of them; “where God guides God provides,” or “God meets all of our needs but not all of our greeds.”
One of the names for God is Jehovah Jireh, which means the Lord will provide. In Genesis 22 God told Abraham to sacrifice his son Isaac, which was a test of Abraham’s faith. God knew what Abraham would do but God wanted Abraham to see his level of commitment in
obedience to what he was told. When Abraham was ready to sacrifice his son, the Angel of the Lord stopped him. Abraham then lifted up his eyes and there was a ram caught in the brush and the ram became the sacrifice instead of Isaac. He then names the place “the Lord will provide.” That is who the Lord is and that is what the Lord does for us; He truly does provide.of provision from God’s end. Also, from the standpoint of our life as a Christian, God provides. He doesn’t just marginally provide, but His provision is over the top, to extremes. Eph 3:20 says, “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us.” 2Pe 1:2 says, “Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord,” and Jude 1:2 says, “Mercy, peace, and love be multiplied to you.” God lavishes His provision on us as we live our life walking in fellowship with Him.
Most importantly in regards to our eternal salvation,
God’s provision for our sin is complete and eternal. All of our sin debt has
been paid for by Christ’s death on Calvary. We should be thanking Him daily for
His most extravagant gift, His Son. Ps 145:2 states, “Every day I will bless
You, And I will praise Your name forever and ever.”
While it is certainly good to pray for God to continue
to provide for our earthly needs and for our Christian walk, which brings glory
to Him, may we never neglect Him in the giving of thanks for the salvation of
our souls.
