Acts 24:16: “This being so, I myself always strive to have a conscience without offense toward God and man.”
It had been a very busy
Saturday, busier than most, and Kay and I had just gotten home from being gone all day when our
doorbell rang around 7:00P.M.
When I opened the door there stood a police officer asking me to come outside. He asked me if there was trouble in the house. Was there a heated argument going on? I told him no and that we had only been home a few minutes. He said there was a
complaint filed by a neighbor of extreme fighting going on at our address. I told him that was not the case and he mentioned that the person who complained sounded drunk and he probably gave the wrong address or street. The point of this is simple, a clean conscience. I wasn’t afraid or upset because a policeman came to our door. Kay and I certainly disagree but it has never turned into yelling and screaming at each other. I could honestly say nothing came from our house. My conscience was clean and I had no need to be afraid or nervous when a policeman asked me to step outside. It is the same when you see a policeman in your review mirror. If you were not speeding, you have your insurance paid and you have current tags there is no need to fear. You have a clean conscience.
God calls us to live our
lives in obedience to His Word. Lev 19:2 “You shall be holy, for I the Lord
your God am holy.”
There is a wonderful portion of scripture in Ps 19:7-11 concerning the word of God, His statutes and judgments. Verse 11 says this, “Moreover by them Your servant is warned and in keeping them there is great reward.”
One aspect of that great
reward by keeping God’s word is that we have no need to fear. Whether there is a policeman at your door, or
in your review mirror, or when you get an audit from the I.R.S., or anything
else that would come your way, if you have a clean conscience by keeping the
Word of God, the reward is no fear.
