When the internet started becoming popular many people started making reservations online instead of calling on the phone. Making reservations on a computer was something new and exciting but it didn’t always work out as expected. Whether reserving a hotel room, a car, or an airline ticket, at times people would hear, “We are sorry, we don’t have a reservation for you.” There was some kind of communication breakdown along the way which was frustrating. Perhaps you can relate if it happened to you.
1 Peter 1:3-5 says, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.”
If you have placed your faith in Jesus, you have an
inheritance because you are one of God’s children. You also have a reservation
in heaven and God is the One who is keeping it. You never have to be concerned
that your reservation will be lost or misplaced. If our salvation and the hope
of heaven were in our hands, we would have a reason of real concern and worry
because as sinners we can never keep ourselves. Nothing can cancel your reservation
to your true home with Jesus in Heaven because it is guaranteed by Him not by
you.
When was your reservation made for you? Twice in Isaiah it says that God called us by name and that we belong to Him. Do you remember when you heard God calling your name and the truth of Jesus became real to you? The fact is that God chose us in Him before the foundations of the world and that is when your reservation in heaven became set. May that truth keep you focused, fruitful for every good work that God has called you to do, and filled with joy today and forevermore.
